You can’t fully understand this card without reading… This link about the 1999 WNBA Ultra complete set!
The #102 Chamique Holdsclaw Rookie is the highlight of the 1999 Ultra WNBA set. It’s the top rookie card of the set. The rookie cards are appealing and easy-to-identify with a staged photo of the player in front of a team-logo background. The “Rookies” in foil at the bottom of the card clearly delineates this subset as well. In the 2001 Standard Catalog of Basketball Cards, the card is valued at $30 with the next closest value being a trio of $10 rookie cards. Although typically not selling that high, the card holds its value today with occasional sales occurring around the $7 mark. There’s record of a PSA 9 selling for $13.15 in September 2016.
In Short: At Cataloged Clutter, we’re building a collection one card at a time and studying every card in depth, no matter how common. Although Pinnacle made WNBA cards starting in 1997, the Fleer/Skybox company arrived in 1999. For one card to represent this set, I’d choose this Chamique Holdsclaw rookie. The backgrounds highlight the teams just as much as the player. They are inserted 1:2 packs so are a bit more rare than the base cards. And I challenge anyone to find a worse-condition autograph than mine right here! So for a representative from the 1999 WNBA base cads, this card is the one. Come subscribe and build sets with us!
