Welcome to Cataloged Clutter where every card gets a video! No card is too common here!
I enjoy running across unique photos in my collection, and today we’re returning to 1995-96 Upper Deck for one more. There’s a ten-card subset at the end of ’95-96 Upper Deck called “Images of ’95.” It’s where I found the photo of Shawn Kemp dressed as Santa Claus, definitely a unique addition to a collection. This one takes us back to basketball and away from Santa Claus, but it’s still a fun non-playing photo. Robert Horry has the trophy and two fingers in the air celebrating the back-to-back championships. Vernon Maxwell is terribly excited beside him. Olajuwon and Drexler are relegated to the back actually, but they have plenty of cards anyway. And there’s the shirts and hats. That brings back memories. Watching the Finals and the second the buzzer sounded, there on QVC and the Home Shopping Network were the shirts and hats of the winning team. Pick up that phone and get your order in within seconds! And we all wondered, what happens to the merchandise for the losers?
It’s easy to find out nowadays. Lots of information about the NFL’s program called Good360 where it is donated to needy communities around the world, but kept out of American markets. Or as early as the early 2000’s, you could read about the MLB’s partnership with World Vision, a humanitarian organization. But I still would like to know what happened to the Orlando Magic shirts from this exact Finals!
Although the rockets were also the ’94 Champions, this year wasn’t easy. They were only the fourth seed in the west going into the playoffs. But not only did they make the Finals, they swept the Magic 4-0. And then Jordan took it personally… A fun non-playing, Championship celebration card. It’s kind of a neat theme to add to your collection.
Please subscribe and collect with us! We give every individual basketball card its own video, so we get to enjoy and remember so many overlooked cards: commons, oddballs, printing variations… It’s something a bit different from the usual big-money investing and box breaks. I hope it allows you to spend time with some of your overlooked cards too.
