1995-96 Topps Finest #115 Kevin Garnett Rookie

1995-96 Finest #115 Kevin Garnett Rookie

You can’t fully understand this card without reading… This link about the 1995-96 Finest set as a whole.

The Card:  The #115 Kevin Garnett rookie card is the fifth rookie card in the 29-card rookie subset. This corresponds to where he was picked in the draft.  It generated a lot of excitement when it first came out.  In fact, the 2001 Standard Catalog of Basketball Cards valued it at $125.00, a bit unreasonable today. But it probably is his most valuable regular issue rookie card.  It is the foundation of the entire 1995-96 Finest set.  Garnett did go straight from high school to the NBA, and the back of the card captures that with high school statistics (although for some reason, Topps included the box without putting any statistics in it) and a mention of him being named High School Player of the Year.

1995-96 Finest #115 Kevin Garnett Rookie Reverse

In Short:  The 1995-96 Finest Kevin Garnett rookie is a landmark card of an important player. It’s arguably the highlight of the whole set. But for such an important card, Topps was being lazy on the reverse. Because Garnett went straight from high school to the NBA, and probably because they didn’t want to alter their template for the reverse, we have a bunch of “N/A” for the ’94-95 and Career stats. Great use of space there, Topps… Also, he’s turning green! You see it on his shirt, hat, ear… If you weren’t aware, Chromium cards before a certain date have been turning green. This is one of my favorite cards, but it’s certainly not perfect. Subscribe and collect with us! We try to not let any detail escape us, so we talk a lot about cards turning green!
