Is there a better photo for a coach card? I wasn’t planning on another video from this 1993 Action Packed Hall of Fame set so soon. We looked at the first ten cards, a subset called “One on One” that matches players up and it was very interesting. Walt Frazier vs. Jerry West, and two great rebounders with Elvin Hayes vs. Nate Thurmond. But after seeing this photo on card #11, the Red Auerbach, we’re continuing. We still have that nice glossy, embossed effect over a matte finish, but look at what you get here! An embossed cigar passing over the gold-foil of the set name, a championship ring… Really, find me a better photo.
This is going to be a quick video, but let’s look at the reverse. You’ll get a kick out of this. They list his height and weight like they do the players. “And here comes coach Auerbach at 5′ 10″ and 170 lbs!” Which actually sounds quite fit to me to be honest… But in all seriousness, it’s not just the photo that makes this card great. Red Auerbach won a record nine championships (well, it was a record until he was overtaken by Phil Jackson). And you really should have a card that mentions the Boston Celtics’ 173-point game. Amazing stat there! There’s been higher, but not too many times. He does still hold the record of coaching the most All-Star games with 11. And the Celtics retired the number 2 jersey in his honor.
We’ll call this video early and we’ll probably continue with the coaches in this set. But after putting up the first ten cards, I just had to show you this photo on number eleven, where those coaches start. Really, can anyone find a better pic on a coach card? Please subscribe and collect with us at Cataloged Clutter. We’re building sets one card at a time and studying each of those cards in depth.
