You can’t fully understand this card without reading…This link to the 1991-92 Hoops set as a whole!
The photo is so exciting, it was featured on the right side of the cover of the November 1991 Sports Card Trader magazine. This kind of intensity, during an All-Star Game! And the ball crossing over the blue border is a great touch. It’s also a chance to have a card with Jordan in his 1991 All-Star Game jersey. The reverse is very simple, basically just statistics, but it’s worth mentioning that Jordan’s 26 points in that 1991 game did lead the East.
In Short: (Fire that photographer! Michael Jordan (and other) NBA Hoops Photo Comparisons) I love ’89-90 Hoops…it’s the first Series II in the hobby, the first full color images on the back. But I feel like they were trying to choose the most boring photo. Let’s look at some cards, let me know if you agree. The regular Jordan. Big difference between this…and this…. Charles Barkley? A great dunk, a save? No, let’s go with the calmest photo we can find! Reggie Miller? A cool layup? No, how about him standing and doing nothing. Manute Bol, so tall! Maybe a block above the rim? No, running and doing nothing. Michael Jordan All-Star card? Enough said… Joking aside, it seems the focus on ’89-90 Hoops was calm, portrait-style photos. Don’t get me wrong, some like the Spud Webb are awesome! But there’s definitely a difference between those ’89-90 photos and everything Hoops did afterwards!
