You can’t fully understand this card without reading… This link about the 1990-91 Fleer set as a whole.
This card, the #63 Tim Hardaway rookie card, is an important one. The 1990-91 Fleer set was quite popular when it was released, and I imagine that this card helped contribute to that initial popularity. The back of the card reminds us just how solid Tim Hardaway’s rookie season was. He was 9th in the league in assists and 10th in the league in steals. There’s also a great reminder that Tim Hardaway, at 6′ even and Nate “Tiny” Archibald, who was 6′ 1″, both went to UTEP. This university must have had a knack for identifying talented guards around 6 feet in height. Tim Hardaway surpassed Archibald as the university’s all-time leading scorer.
Junk sets are known for errors, variations and inconsistencies, like the Michael Jordan “no line” variation. This Tim Hardaway card is one of the uncorrected errors in the set. His birthday is listed as September 12, 1966 but it should be September 1, 1966. This error is present in the 1990-91 NBA Hoops set as well for some reason.
In Short: Despite this being junk wax, despite the error on this card, I love this Tim Hardaway rookie and think it’s underrated. They got his birthday wrong, it should be September 1st, not September 12th 1966. But a great reminder that Hardaway at 6′ even and Nate “Tiny” Archibald both went to UTEP (something in the water there!) And Hardaway was 9th in the league in assists and 10th in steals as a rookie! Great Hardaway vs. Mark Jackson photo too! Fun rookie card! Subscribe to our channel and spend some time appreciating your overlooked junk wax!
