Although this set was overproduced, if there is any card in the set that is essential for collectors, it is this Shawn Kemp rookie card. His other two rookie cards (from 1990-91 Hoops and Skybox) were also overproduced.
There are some amazing photos that can be found in the 1990-91 Fleer set. The #26 Michael Jordan, a straight-on of him dunking with his tongue out is exciting. So is this photo of Shawn Kemp. It’s not a game photo though, instead being from the Gatorade Slam Dunk Championship. But what a memorable photo of the “Reign Man” for a rookie card! The only negative is that the Seattle Supersonics logo covers up the rim of the basketball hoop.
Historical Value: It’s a shame that this Shawn Kemp rookie was overproduced. It’s monetary value is limited due to this. The 2001 Standard Catalog of Basketball Cards lists the price at $1.00 as well as certified prices of $20 for mint and $75 for gem.
In Short: On this channel, we talk about a card’s history, interesting trivia, printing variations…but sometimes we just look at great photos. ’90-91 Fleer was overproduced, but this Shawn Kemp rookie is still a must have! But this photo wasn’t taken during a game. It was from the 1990 Slam Dunk Contest (link in the description). But why couldn’t they put the logo in the other corner instead of over the rim?
